Summer is in full swing, we've got our bathing suits prepared (well, not me) and the bar-b-ques are humming along. Along with the ever assortment of Rosé wines now available (see my post recently), we should be looking at a few other great white wines that will refresh and cool us off on those warm evenings.
What better than a really nice Pinot Grigio? And I have just the one.
Tiefenbrunner Pinot Grigio Vigneti delle Dolomiti 2017
Interestingly, at least for me, I ran into this wine as I was looking for a wine to bring to a recent family (or near family) dinner. Knowing that the hostess likes Pinot Grigio, I was hoping to score something nice. I actually picked this wine up as I had run into this wine before and found it a solid people pleaser.
Two things occurred after picking out this wine. The first is that the hostess called me to tell me how pleased she was with my selection. The second happened a few days later when I happened across a new wine review from Wine Spectator scoring the wine a solid 90 Points.
Seemed to me that this was a perfect wine to use in my "Wine of the Week" column.
Off I go once again to the store to pick up a bottle and to my surprise, it's now on sale at the ridiculously low price of $10.99! What good fortune. Back home I go with the intent to open this bottle with a nice dinner consisting of rice, salmon and broccoli.
The wine is perfect for Summer and my dinner. I can see myself enjoying this wine on the patio and relax as I read the evening paper (do people still do that?). The wine with its crisp acidity and citrus flavors highlighted by a nuance of fruit. I've had some very nice Pinot Grigios, but for the money, this is hard to beat. Click here for tech sheet.
The wine should be readily available. although at this sale price and review, that might limit it somewhat. Looking for a great Summer wine? Consider this one for sure!
