It’s as they say; “wait long enough and things come around a second time.” Maybe that’s not what they say, but it’s what I’m saying as it has meaning in this situation, besides, I like making up new sayings, you never know, one might stick!
That’s what continues to happen to me the longer I stay in this business. Wines that I had seen before, make their way back around to once again become part of my world again! Happened to me this weekend at a wine tasting at which I poured. I had a great lineup and another wine that I’m sure to write about very soon as it was right up there among the greats.
But for this post, I wanted to bring a most enjoyable wine and very reasonably priced given the quality. The quality factor comes about from the proprietors of the winery. Tuck and Boo Beckstoffer. For some, the Beckstoffer name is synonymous with quality, more so for the vineyards located in Napa; To Kalon, Dr. Crane and others. Those vineyards tended by Andy Beckstoffer, Tuck’s father.
Beginning in 1997, Tuck set out to create his own vision for quality wines. Creating Tuck Beckstoffer Wines from Napa and then branching out to the more Northerly areas of Lake and Mendocino counties to create 75 Wine Company. A label named after the year his father and the family settled in Napa Valley, 1975. The mission to create a variety of fun and value-oriented wines; a Sauvignon Blanc, a Red Blend (The Sum) and the wine I’m reviewing
75 Wine Company Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
As I stated at the beginning, this is a wine that I had been introduced to many years ago through the wine shop and even then was a big hit for its ability to deliver on quality and price. Nothing has changed! This wine was a standout! 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Red Hills in Lake and Mendocino counties seeing a year’s worth of French Oak aging 30% being new wood. The wine begins with a nice dose of fresh dark fruit that lingers and trails off to a slightly rustic edge. The tannins are soft but give the wine medium to heavy body. This isn’t a Napa Cab, it’s a frisky and fresh wine that is right for so many occasions and for so many wine drinkers. For more technical information, click here.
At a retail price around $20 (on sale that day for $18), this is a wonderful wine to have around for those occasions when you want a great wine for dinner or guests, or both, and don’t want to break the bank!
