The other day I did a “Wine-Sum-More” column on the Robert Craig Cabernet Sauvignon “Affinity” 2012. Not sure about anyone else out there, but when I start drinking the “Good Stuff” I really don’t like to stop. So I didn’t.
While I said I wouldn’t talk about why I choose a particular wine or what my dinner arrangements might be in this column, I won’t, but I did happen to buy a nice looking beef tenderloin the other day and since I really wanted to enjoy the meat with a great wine I said “What the heck.” Meandering through my cellar I noticed another 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon that I hadn’t had in a while that would “fit the bill” nicely.
The Lewis Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2012. While the “Affinity” is a little more Bordeauxesque, the Lewis Cab is 100% Cab and 100% pure joy! Alongside their Cabernets are their Chardonnays, Syrahs, Merlot, and a Sauvignon Blanc.
Another winner from the 2012 Vintage and wine that just “melts in your mouth.” Okay, it’s a liquid so that may be hard to imagine, but the aromas and the flavors of the wine were absolutely flawless. That Napa Valley Cab flavor of dark rich fruit and the tremendous balance of softer tannins and oak that finish with a long lasting and satisfying finish. Another great wine from an even greater producer.
One last item to note; as a kid I was HEAVILY into auto racing. Stock cars, now NASCAR, and Indy and Formula One racing. So when I found out that the Lewis Cellars was THE Randy Lewis of Formula One Fame, I couldn’t help but check things out. I am so glad I did. The wines produced are nothing but exceptional! If you get a chance, try one, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
