Rating a wine from the 2017 Vintage, it almost seems like it a bit too soon to be doing that. Except! In the Southern Hemisphere, the wine is almost a year in the bottle.
Generally harvested in the months February through April, the wines from down under (that includes New Zealand) are ready for the public early on the following year (that being now in 2018).
I've been following Loveblock since it began. The winery is actually the brainchild of Kim and Erica Crawford. If that name sounds familiar, it should. These are the same folks that created Kim Crawford Winery.
I chose this wine as I had been to a wine tasting the other day in which this wine was being poured. As I said, I've always been a big fan of the wine, especially their Sauvignon Blanc. So not having tasted the newest vintage, this was a perfect opportunity. True to form, this wine made me purr, that might be a little too much, but I did like the wine immensely. From their sustainable vineyards in both the lower Awatere Valley and lower Waihopai Valley in Marlborough, New Zealand, they put forth a wonderful wine full of tropical fruit flavors and beautiful acidity for crispness and minerality for substance. Three attributes I just love in a great Sauv Blanc!
Regularly, this wine sells just South of $25 a bottle. Good timing and a little luck allowed me to pick this up at $18. Not bad but is still worth the regular price. While a great pairing with fish and seafood in general, I can't wait till it's warm again outside to sit and leisurely partake of this wine while relaxing on the porch.
