This weeks “Wine of the Week” almost fell into my lap. Really, I pulled the bottle from my cellar (ha, my closet with wine racks) and proceeded to open the bottle after giving it a slight chill. That’s when it happened.
After screwing in the corkscrew thingy I started to pull the cork out of the bottle and “whoops” the bottle she did slip out of my hands. Now thankfully, or maybe because of, I happened to be sitting when I was doing this. Something I don’t do, or rather can’t remember doing…ever? So bottle be saved!
The most interesting thing about the wine, however, (for me it was almost dropping the darn thing) was that I hadn’t intended to use the wine for my “Wine of the Week.” Just opening a bottle to go along with a nice dinner of some fish and veggies. Nothing too terribly exciting..UNTIL…I drank the wine.

As much as I like to eat, I was ready to sit down, relax, turn on some tunes and savor the wine. Hang the food. Too bad I was so hungry because my stomach took over the conversation (I regularly have talks with myself and other body parts. I know, you don’t have to say it…strange).
So I sit and try and relax and I did turn on some music, I think I had an older CD from Lionel Richie that starts with his hit “Dancing on the Ceiling.” It might be a stretch, but it was very apropos to the wine. (If you get this via email, go to my post to view video). The stuff (questionable term to describe a wine) had me wanting to be dancing on the ceiling! Really. If you’ve been reading my posts you know how much I love Sauvignon Blanc, in just about ANY form or region. This one just did “IT” for me at that one moment in time (um, sounds like another song).
Now I’m REALLY glad I didn’t drop and break the bottle. Just poured myself a glass and let the wine take over. With its longer lees contact (6 to 7 months) the wine exudes wonderful citrus notes and fine minerality. Bright with a slightly bigger mouthfeel. Just right to go along with the fish and veggie dinner. Hard to put down. Click here for the tech notes. Finished dinner right about Lionel’s song “Don’t Stop.” Exactly what I was thinking about with the wine…..
