Wine of the Week

JL Chave Cotes du Rhone "Mon Coeur" 2015

"Mon Coeur" French for "My Heart."  What a great name, even for a wine.  I first had this wine a few years ago.  It just happened to cross my path right before, can you guess, Valentine's Day.  How appropriate.  I even bought some for the shop for that specific reason.  What better than to surprise your loved one with a wine called "My Heart."

Okay, wine as a gift might not necessarily be the best thing to give on Valentine's Day, BUT, add it to a romantic evening that you whip up and serve it with that meal, and I bet you'll get an "aww, how nice."

Obviously, before I brought it into the shop, I had to try it.  That was the easy part.  As a reader of this blog you might know that I love Rhone and Rhone style wines.  Coming from the Southern area of the Rhone Valley, that of the Cotes du Rhone, this is one of those food fantastic wines.  A blend of Grenache and Syrah with just the right amount of Oak aging, the wine offers both structure and complexity with plum and black cherry fruit and a slightly smoky edge leading to soft tannins and smooth finish.  All that and a sale price of $16.99 makes this a wine you want to have around for any occasion.

The 2015 is the current vintage and should be widely available.  I give it a solid 90 Points.  Give it a try and see for yourself.
