Well, the Top 100 from Wine Spectator came out this morning, and as I had promised (yeah, I know I could have broken this one and it wouldn't matter, A quick review of the wines show that my grand total of wines that I have had, or want, did rise a skosh. From my 8 or 9 wine average, I made it all the way to 12!
Also as promised, I will not be listing any individual wines, except one. It just so happens that my "Wine of the Week" this week, the 2012 Spring Valley Frederick made the list coming in at #39 for their 2014 vintage, noting in my post that the 2014 would be a great wine. So if nothing else, I can at least cop to good timing.
One other item that I want to make mention (don't worry, it's a short mention) is how different people have responded to the list and the wine choices that Wine Spectator made. Especially those that have nothing but criticism on the selections. I'm not talking about disagreeing with this wine or that, I'm referring to the responses that are not only critical but openly hostile to the picks. Come on, it's wine, not politics! Another blog altogether....
Now I'm all for people having their own ideas of what is or should be on a list like this, BUT, and to me it's a really big but, since it's their magazine and their people are the ones selecting the wines, like it or not, it's their right to do so. Don't like it, stop subscribing or reading the magazine. It's really that simple.
Okay, off my high horse for now. Congrats to all the wines on the list and I for one will once again look forward to next years Top 100 with equal enthusiasm.
